Montgomery Alumni Chapter Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated
The National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. became official in August 1947 at the Los Angeles Conclave of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In 1980, the Silhouettes were officially recognized as an auxiliary to the Fraternity. Under the leadership of Dr. Oliver Gumbs, Grand Polemarch, the Silhouettes were granted a seat on the Board of Directors of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, Inc. On September 11, 1987, Policy Statement No. 87-12 was entered into the records of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., which recognized the Silhouettes as an affiliate whose purpose is to (1) Serve as an auxiliary to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, (2) Promote the organization of local Silhouette chapters and the interchange of ideas; (3) Coordinate activities of local silhouette chapters; (4) Provide activities of visiting Silhouettes and their families during Kappa Conclave.; and (5) Develop and disseminate policies and procedures for National, Province, and Local chapters.

Montgomery Silhouettes trace their history as a chapter to 1969 when several Kappa wives were invited by Silhouette Mary Briers and Kappa Fred Briers, Jr. to their home to discuss the possibility of forming a chapter of Kappa Silhouettes. The idea was enthusiastically received and Silhouette Briers was elected president of the initial group. This group however did not affiliate with the National Silhouettes. In spite of the initial interest, the group functioned for only a few months before the organization became inactive.

On December 19, 1970, the Polemarch C.C. Baker of the Montgomery Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Incorporated, and Kappa Liaison Officer to the Silhouettes, S.W. Walker, met with several interested Kappa wives to organize a chapter of Silhouettes that would be a part of the national organization. On January 17, 1971, sixteen of the twenty-six Silhouettes who would be active that year were present when the officers were installed by Polemarch Baker. The organization soon affiliated with the National Kappa Silhouettes by submitting national dues for 22 members on February 24, 1971.

Montgomery Silhouettes have operated continuously since December, 1970. The chapter has hosted five Province Council Meetings: 1973, 1990, 1999, 2009, and 2024. The Montgomery Silhouettes have been involved with numerous community projects including: providing funds and toys for children at the Montgomery County Youth Facility, giving Christmas gifts to residents of local senior citizens’ home and to children in several needy families, donating games and sewing supplies to a local senior citizens’ home, supporting the Family Sunshine Center with monetary donations and volunteering, providing plastic bags to help the homeless, providing clothes and bedding/linen to decorate a room for Aid to Inmate Mothers, and collecting nonperishable food to donate to the Montgomery Food Bank. A committee of Silhouettes designed and supervised interior decoration of the Montgomery Alumni Chapter Kappa House. The Silhouettes have provided assistance to the Montgomery Kappas during their annual Guide Right basketball tournaments, Christmas Angle Tree donations, and Bryson-Ivery Golf Tournament fundraisers.

Beyond service and leadership, the Montgomery Silhouettes cherish a strong spirit of sisterhood and regularly gather for fellowship, including shared meals, movie nights, and meaningful bonding activities.
